As one of the top 40 leagues in the world, we’re heading to Salem, OR for one of the 2013 WFTDA roller derby playoffs. Hosted by the Cherry City Derby Girls, the Salem tournament pits your #23 Boston against #12 Rat City in the first round on Friday, September 27. Other teams attending the tournament include the #4 B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls, #7 Atlanta Rollergirls, #15 Detroit Derby Girls, #20 Charm City Roller Girls, #28 Sacred City Derby Girls, #31 Victorian Roller Derby League, #36 The Chicago Outfit, and #39 Toronto Roller Derby.

On September 15, Boston coaches, skaters, and officials will be at Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, MA to run a one-day clinic on roller derby for both skaters and officials. Skaters will have the opportunity to fine-tune their derby skills, learn new strategies, and challenge themselves against BDD’s best in a black-and-white scrimmage.

For interested officials, Boston is offering off-skates classes and on-skates track training, as well as the opportunity to officiate the afternoon’s black and white scrimmage.

Classes are limited to 60 skaters and 30 officials, so sign up soon!

SKATERS: Male and female-identifying skaters welcome. You must have WFTDA or USARS insurance and be scrimmage-eligible.

OFFICIALS: This is a clinic for both non-skating and skating officials; if you plan to sign up as a skating official, we expect you to be comfortable on your skates.

COACHES: You do not need WFTDA or USARS insurance if you are attending as a coach.

TIMELINE:

9:30-11:30: Class Block A
11:30-12PM: Lunch with the Coaches
12PM-2PM: Class Block B
2PM-2:15PM: Snack Break
2:30PM: Black and White Scrimmage

We hope you all enjoyed your summers and are ready for another round of Boston Derby Dames action. In the three months since our home teams met, they’ve been bulking up, learning new tricks, and spinning their wheels in excitement for the first game of the fall season, right here at Shriners Auditorium in Wilmington, MA.

The Cosmos yielded the dance floor last season when the Nutcrackers beat them 294-123. But it’s a new year and a new spin of the Earth, and the skaters of the Spacebrain have no intention of giving up so easy this time.

And after that dance party, we recommend getting a snack and a beer and getting pumped up for the lyrical skating of the Wicked Pissahs and the Arkham Horrors at 7 PM. Will the Pissahs reign victorious? Will the Horrors send the girls from Revere into another dimension? You won’t know unless you stick around.
